Dennis Cox was named Travel Photographer of the Year for 1997 by the Society of American Travel Writers for his gold award-winning travel portfolio and was runner-up for that honor in both 1998 and 1999. He received the bronze portfolio award in 1996 and a gold people category award in 1995 in the annual SATW competition. In 1984 a portfolio on China by Dennis Cox, published in the international photography annual Minolta Mirror, won an "Award of Excellence" from Communication Arts.
As the founder and director of Photo Explorer Tours (formerly China Photo Workshop Tours), Dennis Cox has been leading photo tours to China since 1981 and to other photogenic world destinations since 1996. He has photographed all seven continents and has specialized in photographing China since 1976. His stock photography is marketed worldwide through Tony Stone Images, the Time Inc. Picture Collection, and FPG in the U.S.; ageFotostock in Spain; Fotocronache Olympia in Italy; IFA-Bilderteam in Germany; Mon Tresor in Japan; and Dinodia in India; as well as from his own stock photo agencies, ChinaStock and the D.E. Cox Photo Library, which contain the works of over a dozen other travel photographers worldwide.
Dennis Cox is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), and American Society of picture Professionals (ASPP). He has been a workshop instructor for the American PHOTO Mentor Series, taught photography at Henry Ford Community College, and has written for several photography magazines both nationally and internationally. Darkroom Photography and the 1988 Photographer's Market have profiled his work and he is listed in American Photographers, an "illustrated who's who among contemporary Americans."
